Dev Diary #3: new toys! 🚀

When I first set out to post every two weeks, it actually helped me stay focused. But it also made me realize how slowly game development moves when life gets busy. That realization can feel a bit discouraging, but I try not to see it that way. Life is full of other exciting things too, not just game making, and that’s OK!

I keep reminding myself of something wise I once read (though I’ve forgotten where): “Direction is more important than speed.” For me, that means as long as I’m moving in the right direction, I’m okay with taking it slow.

That said, I haven’t been completely away from game development, even if I haven’t made any progress on Unlikely Allies in terms of game design. I’ve been playing around with some new toys: a Canon PIXMA iX6850 printer and a Cricut Joy Xtra. My old prints were fine, but this new setup is on another level (see comparisons below).

The Cricut is mostly just for fun. It’s a cutting machine (among other things) that can carve out detailed card shapes and patterns. I’m not sure exactly how it fits into game dev yet, but I’ve got a few ideas.

That’s it for now. Over and out.
